The Tooth Extraction Process

In general, a simple tooth extraction is a minor outpatient procedure performed using local anesthesia. If you are anxious about dental procedures, be sure to let us know so that we can offer additional anesthesia or sedation options for your comfort.

If a tooth is not impacted and is visible above the gum line, Dr. Barefoot will loosen the tooth before removing it with forceps. For more complicated extractions, Dr. Barefoot will make a small incision in the gums and may remove a small amount of bone to extract the tooth.

You will receive detailed pre- and post-operative instructions from our office with all of the information about what to do before and after your tooth extraction procedure. Following these instructions will aid in your recovery.
